I Know In Whom I Have Trusted

“Nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted” – 2 Nephi 4:19
.
Sometimes our shortcomings, sins, and weaknesses can feel overwhelming.
.
Perhaps we have all, at one time or another, felt as Nephi did when he cried,
“My heart exclaimeth: O wretched man that I am! Yea, my heart sorroweth because of my flesh; my soul grieveth because of mine iniquities.
“I am encompassed about, because of the temptations and the sins which do so easily beset me.
“And when I desire to rejoice, my heart groaneth because of my sins.” – 2 Nephi 4:17-19
.
In such moments of discouragement, I have many times heard the voice of the Lord whisper to my heart …
“Look at how far we’ve come. Look at the progress we’ve made. Look at where you were compared to where you are now … Be patient. I will get you the rest of the way there.”
.
None of us can pull ourselves up to perfection.
It takes the strength of a God to gradually change and perfect us over time in Christ.
.
When we are feeling discouraged with our progress in coming to Christ, we too, like Nephi, can exclaim with confidence,
“Nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted.
“My God hath been my support .” – 2 Nephi 4:19-20
.
We can trust in Christ’s promise when he says
“Yea, verily I say unto you, if ye will come unto me ye shall have eternal life.
“Behold, mine arm of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed are those who come unto me.” – 3 Nephi 9:14
.
We all have a long way to go toward perfection. But we can each be perfectly tied to Christ today and trust in His ability to get us there in time.
