Wandering in Darkness

Am I still on the right path? Did I miss a turn somewhere? Did I make a wrong decision? Am a I still heading in the direction you want me to be going?

.

I have found myself asking the Lord those questions many times throughout my life.

.

There are moments in life when the path we’re supposed to walk seems so clear. And yet, after we embark on it, we sometimes find ourselves wandering.

.

One of the lessons I learn from Lehi’s dream is that the faithful followers of Christ may, at times, find themselves wandering in darkness.

.

And sometimes we wander for a long time before we realize we need the Lord’s help to get back on course.

.

In Lehi’s vision, he was trying to follow the right path when he became lost in darkness.

.

Yet why did he wander for many hours before he decided to ask the Lord for help?

Perhaps Lehi thought he was doing what he was supposed to by keeping in the direction he’d been shown.

.

And Lehi may well have still been heading in the right direction … but he just couldn’t see clearly enough to know.

.

I often feel that way. I keep on the path the Lord started me on but at some point it feels like I’m wandering.

I keep going because the Lord asked me to walk this path when really, perhaps he’s waiting for me to realize that I need to reach out to Him for help and guidance.

.

It’s true that some of us wander because we’re not even looking for the Savior.

.

But some of us are genuinely trying, and it’s not that we lose focus but that the landscape changes.

.

What may have been obvious or easy in our path to follow the Savior, can become obscure through no fault of our own.

This seems to be the nature of the Journey.

The difficulty changes as we grow.

.

The Lord needs us to reach out to Him all along the way if we are to keep progressing.

.

Do you feel like you’re wandering … even as your striving to follow the Savior? Are you unsure if you’re still in the path He wants you to walk?

.

Perhaps it’s time to learn from Lehi’s experience, and ask anew for the Lord’s mercy to see clearly?
